Contacttracers Clear, calm guidance for water, air and a healthy home

About Contact Tracers

Contact Tracers is an independent online magazine about the health of your home. We focus on the things you are in contact with every day without thinking about them: the water from your tap, the air in your living room, the moisture behind your walls. Our mission is simple — to help households understand these everyday exposures and act on them calmly, with evidence rather than anxiety.

What we cover

Our coverage is organised into four sections. In Drinking Water we explain what is actually in tap water, how quality is regulated and tested, and what common concerns — lead pipes, nitrates, hardness, PFAS — really mean for a household. Water Filtration looks at jug filters, under-sink systems, reverse osmosis and softeners: when they help, when they are unnecessary, and how to maintain them so they do not become a problem themselves. Indoor Air covers ventilation, particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide, radon and the small daily habits that change what you breathe. Damp & Mould addresses one of the most common and most misunderstood home health issues: where moisture comes from, why mould grows, what the health evidence says, and how to fix the cause rather than repaint over the symptom.

How we work

Our editorial approach is prevention-focused and grounded in public-health guidance. We read the research, the standards and the recommendations from bodies such as the World Health Organization and national health and environment agencies, and we translate them into plain, practical language. When the evidence is strong, we say so. When it is uncertain or contested, we say that too. We would rather tell you that a cheap habit solves ninety per cent of a problem than sell you urgency.

We are deliberately calm. Headlines about toxic homes travel fast, but fear is a poor basis for good decisions. Most issues we write about — a musty bathroom, hard water, stuffy bedrooms — have straightforward, affordable solutions, and we structure our articles around them: explainers that build understanding, checklists you can work through in an afternoon, and problem-solution guides for when something has already gone wrong.

Independence

Contact Tracers does not accept payment for coverage, does not run sponsored reviews, and does not let manufacturers see articles before publication. If we recommend a type of product, it is because the evidence supports the category, not because a brand supported us. Where our articles touch on health symptoms, we will always point you towards a doctor or your local public-health service — a magazine can inform your decisions, but it should never replace professional advice.

We are a small team, and we like it that way. Fewer articles, better sourced, genuinely useful. If you spot an error or have a question about your own home, write to us at info@contacttracers.com. Welcome to Contact Tracers.
